Regis Philbin Inspired by
Wounded Service Members' Spirit
Regis Philbin of the "Live with Regis and Kelly" television talk show listens June 22 to Army Staff Sgt. Gary M. Jackson, 35, tell him what doctors at Walter Reed Army Medical Center in Washington are doing to fix wounds he received in Iraq while serving with the 16th Military Police Brigade (Airborne). AFPS photo by Rudi Williams      WASHINGTON, June 23, 2004 — It seemed like old home week when television star Regis Philbin walked into the Walter Reed Army Medical Center hospital room of Army Spc. Danielle Green. They'd shot a few hoops together four years ago when Green was a basketball star at Philbin's alma mater, the University of Notre Dame.
Green can't shoot hoops any more – at least not with the left hand she used to score more than 1,100 points during her Notre Dame career. She lost her hand May 25 when she was hit by an enemy rocket in Iraq. Story

Deputy Defense Secretary
Paul Wolfowitz
"We know the enemy, which is a mixture of al Qaeda-type terrorists like Zarqawi and the killers of Saddam's regime, who've basically made an alliance with each other, are going to target this next six-month period to create as much chaos (in Iraq), as much mayhem as they can. So if more forces are needed, more forces will be on standby to reinforce. But the longer-term goal is to get Iraqis in the front lines. There are thousands and thousands of Iraqis ready to fight and die for that country."
