FORT
HOOD, Texas, June 18, 2004 — The first shots came out of
the north and went over his head. Laying facedown on the
roof, 1st Lt. Eric Johnson trained his scope on a group of
armed men to the east. Turning his head to the left, he could
see Camp Victory and Highway 8, the direction the shots were
fired from. Behind him, to the west, lay Camp Slayer and
the airport.
Johnson, a sniper with Headquarters
and Headquarters Troop, 1st Squad, 7th Cavalry, 1st Cavalry
Division, attached to 5th Brigade Combat Team, was on a mission
with two other soldiers and an interpreter, April 18. More |
