First Team Wives
Train for National Race |

 FORT HOOD, Texas, June 4, 2004 — A group of First Team wives are training for the October Army 10-Miler in Washington D.C., to show support for their husbands who are deployed with the 1st Cavalry Division.
The race, which begins and ends at the Pentagon, will be limited to 16,000 participants, according to co-founders Pat Jones and Colleen Forshee.
"This is the largest 10-mile race in the United States," Jones said. "The first four finishers of each team have the times that count." More |

ABOARD USS LEYTE GULF, At Sea, June 4, 2004 (NNS) — A small contingency of Naval Coastal Warfare Group 1 is currently living aboard the Khwar Al Amaya Oil Terminal and the Al Basrah Oil Terminal to provide surveillance and communications support to further enhance security.
The detachments arrived on the terminals with a reaction platoon of Marines from the Interim Marine Corps Security Force company out of Bahrain April 29, following an attack that killed two U.S. Navy sailors and one Coast Guardsman April 24. More |

Contract in Fallujah for Several Projects |

FULLUJAH, Iraq, June 4, 2004 - Marines selected
several contractors here for key upcoming projects,
according to Multinational Force Iraq officials.
Marines signed three contractors to complete $500,000 worth of work on the
Al Sakaniyah Apartment project. Additionally, Marines awarded: a $77,000
contract to repair the Al Rhama mosque; a $45,000 contract for the Wadi al
Akik School project; and a $45,000 contract to repair a Highway Patrol Police
Station. |

CAMP LEMONIER, Djibouti, June 3, 2004 — Cooperation among service members here, outside relief agencies and the Djiboutian government brought new educational opportunities to four local schools in time for World Telecommunications Day May 17.
More than $35,000 was spent providing the schools with 40 computers in all. The role of Combined Joint Task-Horn of Africa in the undertaking was simple – arrange a meeting with the U.S. Agency for International Development and Djibouti Telecom, the government’s service provider and one of the camp’s biggest contracts for outside telecommunications.
