of Islamic faith here was reopened for Muslims
looking for a place to worship April 25.
More than 20 private contractors, all workers of
Muslim faith, teamed up with Lance Cpl. Mohammad U. Qayyum, security augment
to Charlie Company, 3rd Low Altitude Air Defense Battalion, 3rd Marine Aircraft
Wing, to restore the mosque in order to afford Muslims living and working here

Iraqi Police Arrest
Seven, One Officer Wounded
|
BABYLON, Iraq, April 29, 2004 -- Iraqi police arrested five murder suspects and two attackers during separate incidents April 28, according to Combined Joint Task Force 7 officials.
The murder suspects, who were also suspected of armed robbery and organizing illegal checkpoints, were captured by a police patrol in Karbala around 2 p.m.
About eight hours later, Iraqi police captured two suspects in Al Hillah who fled after firing small arms at the police. One police officer was wounded during the incident. |

USS BOXER, April 29, 2004 (NNS) — USS Boxer
will be returning to its homeport of San Diego
April 29, after completing a three-and-a-half
month deployment in support of Operation Iraqi
Freedom. This was Boxer’s second deployment in
less than a year’s time, during which
Boxer provided amphibious lift of essential
personnel and equipment for 1st Marine Expeditionary

CAMP TAQADDUM, Iraq — The stench of rotten eggs doused with three-month old milk burning in a dump was the scent suffocating the Marines with the Combined Anti-Armor Team during a patrol outside of Camp Taqaddum, Iraq, April 23.
The reserve Marine Combined Anti-Armor Team element from Weapons Company, 3rd Battalion, 24th Marine Regiment, originally based out of Springfield, Mo., was on a standard mission of conducting security patrols on the outside perimeter of the base. More |

Identify Army Casualty |
WASHINGTON,
April 29, 2004 — Defense Department officials announced today
the death of a soldier who was supporting Operation Iraqi Freedom.
Spc. Jacob R. Herring, 21, of Kirkland,
Wash., died April 28, in Mosul, Iraq, from injuries sustained
when an improvised explosive device in Talafar, Iraq, struck
his vehicle. Herring was assigned to the Army’s 5th
Battalion, 20th Infantry Regiment, 3rd Brigade Combat Team, 2nd
Infantry Division, Fort Lewis, Wash. |

League draft was held April 24, at Madison Square Garden,
N.Y. and Marines and soldiers from the surrounding
areas were invited by the New York Metropolitan USO
and the NFL to attend as honorary guests. During
the event, service members, NFL Commission Paul Tagliabue
and others paused for a moment of silence to pay
tribute to former NFL player, Army Spc. Pat Tillman,
