Iraqis Continue Leading U.S. Troops to Weapons, Suspects

     WASHINGTON, Feb. 27, 2004 — Iraqi citizens continue to point U.S. troops to sites where weapons and ammunitions are being found – even in some cases hand delivering turn-in of the deadly munitions.
     Over the past week there have been at least four incidents where Iraqi civilians have led U.S. troops to hidden stockpiles of weapons and ammunition, coalition officials report.In Mosul, a concerned group of citizens in northwestern Iraq led soldiers to a large cache of weapons, according to a Central Command release. Defense Secretary Reaffirms Commitment to Afghanistan

     KABUL, Afghanistan, Feb. 27, 2004 — Defense Secretary Donald H. Rumsfeld reaffirmed the U.S. and coalition commitment to helping Afghanistan's people rebuild their nation under President Hamid Karzai's leadership.
     Speaking at a joint news conference with Karzai after meeting at the presidential palace here Feb. 26, Rumsfeld said NATO partners will play an increasing role in the effort. More

     KABUL, Afghanistan, Feb. 27, 2004 — The Taliban is dead as a movement or a military factor in Afghanistan, the country's president said here Feb. 26.
     President Hamid Karzai held a joint news conference with U.S. Defense Secretary Donald H. Rumsfeld after they met in Afghanistan's presidential palace. Karzai said former Taliban leaders seeking to return home will be allowed back if they don't have criminal records. More

Kuwaiti Campout Provides Message from Space
     UDAIRI RANGE, Kuwait -- Sleeping under the dessert sky on a clear night is an awesome experience. I spent 25-27 January 04 at the Udari Range receiving additional training in convoy operations and defensive tactics in close quarters.
     The range is in the middle of nowhere with Bedouin shepherds and their camels and goats as your only neighbors. In the Udari dessert you sense that things haven’t changed much over the last 8000 years, other than some Bedouins now have an old pickup truck outside their tent. More

Identify Army Casualty
     WASHINGTON, Feb. 27, 2004 — Defense Department officials announced today the death of a soldier who was supporting Operation Enduring Freedom.
     Spc. David E. Hall, 21, of Uniontown, Kan., died Feb. 25 in Kabul, Afghanistan, in a non-hostile accident. Hall was assigned to 805th Military Police Company, 16th Military Police Brigade, U.S. Army Reserve, Raleigh, N.C. The incident is under investigation.
