|
CRESTVIEW,

not only in Florida communities but across the nation,
National Guard soldiers put aside their civilian jobs and
laced up combat boots for their turn at keeping America
safe. The nearly 100 soldiers from the 653rd Signal Company
were busy preparing their vehicles and equipment for the
long journey ahead.
They left Jan. 2 for Fort Stewart, Ga., with a
police escort out of town and nearly 100 friends, family and town members waving
goodbye. The 653rd will remain at Fort Stewart until they leave for Southwest
Asia in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom. Story |

Army's 67th Signal Departs for Desert Rotation
|
FORT
GORDON, Ga., Jan. 7, 2004 (Army News Service) — As choruses
of people counted down the New Year, the tears streaming
down some of their cheeks had little to do with enthusiasm
for the year to come.
Two days into the New Year, Jan. 2, more than 500
friends and family members said farewell to the soldiers of the 67th Signal Battalion
during a departure ceremony at Fort Gordon, as the unit prepared to deploy to
the Central Command Area for one year as part of America’s continued support
of the war on terrorism. Story |

Signal
Battalion Soldiers
Move From Mountaintop |
 |
 |
 |
 |
MOSUL,
Iraq, Jan. 8, 2004 — On a remote mountaintop
in northern Iraq, 10
miles east of the town
of Tallafar, soldiers
are getting ready to
leave their outpost
and join fellow soldiers
here, and they're doing
it the way soldiers
in the 101st Airborne
Division (Air Assault)
have been doing it
for years: by air.
Soldiers from the division's
501st Signal Battalion
set up a retransmission
site eight months ago
on a mountain close
to Highway 1 to boost
communications between
convoys and units'
headquarters, said
Sgt. Lyle Follmer,
radio team chief. More |
