Robertson said Bush has shown "his and his administration's commitment to NATO and to the strength of this trans-Atlantic alliance that has bound together these democratic and freedom-loving states over all of the years." More

WASHINGTON, Oct. 21, 2002 — A snapshot of two Afghan boys sent home by a soldier to his wife started a chain of events that would come to capture the attention of President Bush and Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld.
U.S. Army Sgt. 1st Class Jay Smith, a civil affairs engineer, had sent his wife a photo of two boys he'd befriended. Smith's wife sent gifts for the two –- used baseball gloves and a ball — in her next care package.
"Jay gave them to the boys, and it just caught on fire," Sgt. 1st Class Victor Andersen, Smith's teammate and friend, said in relaying the tale. More

The project will repair the building’s water and sewer systems, install heating and air conditioning, construct a patient waiting area, drill a well and construct a generator shelter. The generator was donated by the Japan International Cooperation Agency, a non-governmental organization. The hospital has 300 beds and employs 500 Afghans.
Team Rebuilds Schools - In the past week, Civil Affairs Team Mazar-e-Sharif began repairs on five Coalition Joint Task Force-180 approved education projects in Mazar e-Sharif. These projects will benefit over 7,800 students, including 1,500 girls. Four projects will rebuild and refurbish facilities, and one will improve student safety. These projects are estimated to cost $147,000.
