Al Qaeda Tie
'Not Debatable' |
| By Jim Garamone / American Forces Press Service |
ATLANTA, Sept. 27, 2002 — U.S. Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld said this
morning the link between al Qaeda terrorists and Iraq is "accurate and not
debatable."
Rumsfeld traveled here to discuss the on-going war on terrorism and the
threat Iraq poses to the United States and its allies.
The secretary declined to give more details on the ties between Saddam
Hussein and Osama bin Laden. He said he does not want to give away
intelligence information that may help the enemy.
Rumsfeld said he is not here to sell war with Iraq to the American people,
noting that President Bush has made no decision on possible military action. More |

| Rumsfeld Answers Questions on Iraqi Threat |
ATLANTA, Ga., Sept. 27, 2002 — There are "serious risks to acting, there are serious risks to not acting" as well, U.S. Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld told the Metro Atlanta Chamber of Commerce Friday.
The secretary said the world has entered a new security environment, one in which deterrence — like that the United States maintained against the Soviet Union — will be less effective. He said the environment is profoundly different, and America must "adjust our thinking so that we can live safely in this new environment." More |

"If in any way we need to be reminded of the inextricable link between economic performance and national security, think back to that painful day, Sept. 11, 2001," he said. "...We watched, literally, worldwide economic performance come to a standstill." Story
