America Makes Stand;
U.N. Must Confront Iraq |
WASHINGTON,
Sep. 15, 2002 The United States will stand up for world
security and human dignity, U.S. President George W. Bush said
in his Saturday radio address to the nation. He called on the
United Nations to do the same by confronting the decade-long
defiance of Iraqi dictator Saddam Hussein.
"Saddam Hussein has made the case against
himself," the president said. "He has broken every
pledge he made to the United Nations and the world since his
invasion of Kuwait was rolled back in 1991. Sixteen times the
United Nations Security Council has passed resolutions designed
to ensure that Iraq does not pose a threat to international
peace and security. Saddam Hussein has violated every one of
these 16 resolutions not once, but many times."

MOINES, Iowa — As a U.S. Army lieutenant read
the oath of enlistment, 17-year-old Garry Tinsley
III of Des Moines raised his right hand and swore
to "support and defend the Constitution of
the United States, against all enemies foreign and
domestic. At the new soldier's side stood his proud
father - with his right hand raised, and repeating
the oath of enlistment. So began - and began anew

Mass Weapons
Threat Real;
Iraq not Only Concern |
| WASHINGTON —
While Iraq's weapons of mass destruction program poses
the most immediate danger, other countries are also of
concern, a senior defense official said Friday. Iran,
North Korea, Syria, Libya, Sudan and Cuba have active
WMD programs, said the official. But what is of more concern
is the nexus between such states and terrorist organizations.
